From: Philipp Conrad Date: Wed, 19 Feb 97 09:24:46 -0600 >Please tell me how can I can sign up to a tracker server. 1) make sure you are using the Hotline Server b20 software. 2) under options select "Register with Tracker" 3) give your site a name and description. 4) enter the IP address of the tracker you wish to be listed on. Adam hinkley has not yet added support for registering on multiple trackers, but I hope he will! He claims to be working on something in the line of "linking trackers." Beats me. :-) Philipp (Zini) .:::. From: Jon Goldberg Date: Wed, 19 Feb 1997 21:15:50 -0500 Here's a new idea for servers, what do people think? Despite the fact that now a Tracker can tell someone when a given server is up, I still don't think bookmarks are going to become obsolete ;). So, what if someone wants to run a Hotline (on a static IP) but not 24 hours a day? Many sites I see are down during daytime hours. The answer, I believe, is either an option on the server (or better yet, a SMALL stand-alone app) that will receive logins like a server, but instead of a logon, the person will merely receive a user-defined message, like "This system is not open during this time. Our hours are 7pm-7am" or something like that. What do people think? Also, there's the issue of the "incomplete upload" icon being the same as the "upload in progress" icon. . .sometimes I start an upload, then my comp crashes, I log back on, and even if there's no ghost, other ppl are accessing the incomplete u/l, making it impossible for me to finish. Is there a way that this can be resolved? Jon __ Jon Goldberg '99. ______________________ /\ | | /\ / \ Just your average guy. From: XANiLOGx@aol.com Date: Fri, 21 Feb 1997 04:21:18 -0500 (EST) About servers being up part time, I would think that this is due to the fact that the admin is unable to have it up full time because their connection goes down or something. If they were able to have a mini-server listening for connections with a message, why not just have the real server up? Or, if for some reason someone wants to have a "down" message, in the regular hotline server their could simply be an option added, something like a check box called "Server Down" or something, that would, when checked, simply send a message that the server was down instead of connecting the user. This doesn't seem like it would be a hard thing to add, and it would eliminate the need for a whole 'nother application just to give the "down" message (I still think the admin should just keep the server up.). -Jason ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Tracker From: d5w@atcon.com Date: Thu, 20 Feb 1997 12:20:18 -0500 Can someone please explain to me what software I need to log onto a tracker server and how do I do it? There will be a box that says Tracker next to it, enter 207.70.237.7 into the box. Click ok. Now to bring up the tracker, choose tracker from the "Hotline" menu or toolbar. A blank box will appear, If the server is working like it should be after a few seconds the box will fill with server names. To go to a server, double click on a server OR click on the name once then hold down the option key and click the connect button(Its the first one), this will bring up the connect dialog box so you can enter in a username and password. To update the list click the recycle button(the last one). The center button doesn't do anything in b20. 204.95.233.208 is the backup tracker server, if the first one is down use 204.95.233.208.
