Gaul ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: ENOUGH!! From: pramsey@mail.tds.net Date: Thu, 13 Feb 1997 04:51:17 -0400 Fine!!!! None but a very few of you believe me, that is *fine*, I *don't* care. When I find the file I'll be more then sure to post it here for all of you to read. I have already made a filter for ANY hotline message to do with invisible files AND any replies to this message, they will be deleted without me ever knowing about them, so if you want to talk more about this then do 1 of 2 things... 1* Don't intend on me ever reading your post because I won't. or 2* Send your flamez to me in person and keep this crap out of here. As for me I have better things to do then fight with a few babies. I know what fact is and I have given it. *I AM NOT* I AM NOT TRYING TO SELL ANYTHING. I AM NOT TRYING TO STOP HOTLINE FROM BEING MADE. I AM NOT TRYING TO MAKE EVERYONE DELETE ALL THERE INVISIBLE FILES. I AM NOT SAYING THE FBI IS COMING AFTER ANYONE. I AM NOT SAYING THAT IT IS ILLEGAL TO HAVE INVISIBLE FILES ON YOUR HARD DRIVE. I AM NOT SAYING THE END OF THE WORLD IS COMING. I AM NOT SAYING THE X-FILES ARE REAL. I AM NOT SAYING THAT THE FBI IS WATCHING YOU THROUGH YOUR TV SETS. I AM NOT SAYING THE FBI SHOT JFK. I AM NOT SAYING IT IS ILLEGAL TO SPIT WHERE EVER YOU WANT HERE. I AM NOT SAYING THAT EVERY PROGRAM THAT MAKES INVISIBLE FILES IS AT RISK. I AM NOT SAYING WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THE FBI PICKS A PROGRAM LIKE HOTLINE TO PICK ON. I AM NOT SAYING THAT INVISIBLE FILES ARE VIRII. *I AM* I AM SAYING THAT I AM GIVING FACTS. I AM SAYING I KNOW WHAT FACTS ARE, HOTLINE IS A PROGRAM AND THATS A FACT. I AM SAYING THAT THERE IS A LAW ABOUT A PROGRAM PUTTING INVISIBLE FILES ON A COMPUTERS HARD DRIVE. I AM SAYING THAT IT IS *POSSIBLE* THAT MAKER OF THE PROGRAM WILL ONLY BE BREAKING THE LAW IF THE PROGRAM MAKES INVISIBLE FILES AND DOESN'T FILE A USA GOVERNMENT PAPER SAYING THAT THE PROGRAM CREATES AND CHANGES ITS OWN INVISIBLE FILES. SO THE MAKER OF THE PROGRAM POSSIBLY HAS TO DO ONE OF TWO THINGS FOR USA SALES, 1* TELL THE END USER OF THE PROGRAM THAT THE PROGRAM MAKES INVISIBLE FILES OR 2* FILE WHAT EVER SET OF PAPERS IT IS AND SEND THEM TO THE FBI TO SHOW THAT THE INVISIBLE FILES ARE NOT THE START OF A VIRUS. I AM SAYING THAT THE POSSIBLE REASON WHY ALL THE LARGE COMPANIES ARE NOT BEING SUED AND/OR GETTING FINED IS THAT THEY HAVE MORE THEN ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY FOR FILING THE RIGHT PAPERS. I AM SAYING THAT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IF A COMPANY FILES THE RIGHT PAPERS IT DOES NOT HAVE TO TELL ANYONE, INCLUDING US. I AM SAYING THAT HOTLINE IS ADAM HINKLEYS FIRST PUBLIC PROGRAM. I AM SAYING THAT HE POSSIBLY DOESN'T HAVE ANY FREE MONEY TO PAY FOR THESE PAPERS. I AM SAYING THAT BECAUSE OF THE 2 REASONS ABOVE THAT IT WOULD POSSIBLY BE BEST FOR ADAM TO FIND MORE OUT ABOUT THESE PAPERS AND/OR JUST INCLUDE THAT LITTLE READ ME FILE WITH HOTLINE THAT SAYS "Please note, this program creates a very small invisible file on your hard drive. etc.". Thank you! This is ALL I am saying on this matter until I find the document that clearly states that this law is real and has codes and sub-codes. -togtog PS- Yes I know ALL CAPS is un-cool but I couldn't care less. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!! From: Huck Date: Thu, 13 Feb 1997 04:14:28 -0400 Dear Fellow listees, I must appologize for instigating this mess. Tog tog is correct in one thing that things (and I) have gotten carried away. Otherwise =p... (sorry, can't help myself =)> The bottom line is that HOTLINE is NOT implementing hidden filez and it should stop there. As for togtog's paranoia, I cannot change that and we are thus in a pointless arguement, not a discussion. I think you are wrong and you don't. Let's leave it there. I read what you have recently stated but I care not to comment here or to you because it is a futile undertaking. No one has asked me to do this and am doing it because I realized the ridiculousness of the situation. I must agree that this has turned out sour. (if BamBam was here we would all be unsubbed by now =) I have noticed Cheesy has abstained from this little fiasco as I would if in his shoes. I do ask cheesy for when next time something like this starts to brew to unsub the perpetraitors of such OFFTOPIC discussions mostly after Adam said there would be no hidden filez. BTW that DOES include me!!!! This is very typical for a new list and I am quite ashamed of myself to have partaken in it. Then again it is a good sign of a list growing up and becoming large enough to initiate some simple ground rulez. All rulez that apply to other lists as such should apply here. Once again sorry fellow listees and sorry togtog next time I will flame you directly. I hope you stay with us. Your opinions although offbase in my mind are welcome and of great value. In fact all opinions are valuable beacuse they are derived from a differnt opinion. I think we should go on with the regularly scheduled ON TOPIC list discussions about the reason we are here.... HOTLINE!!!!!! everyone who agrees DO NOT REPLY!!!! jr ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: From: pramsey@mail.tds.net Date: Thu, 13 Feb 1997 05:10:17 -0400 Huck just saved your neck and sorry I got pissed at you. Gaul" Date: Thu, 13 Feb 1997 15:16:21 -0800 (PST) Ok, I am kinda pissed. I haven't use hotline in like a month. I did not know what "custom" icon I had selected and hadn't really cared because I wanted to logon to Macline real fast and check out what the new stuff was for Hotline. Well, Noah comes up to me and hassles me about using his icon, the "cool mac" one. I proceeded to tell him that I didn't know which icon I was using when I logged on,( i hadn't even considered selecting one!) and that I was sorry, but that I was only going to be on for a sec. He said that those icons are for a select few and that I am not supposed to use them. I got my password from hinks, and told him that. He wanted to know when and why I wasn't using my own icon, since I must've had submitted one if he gave me the password. I have never submitted an icon, hinks gave me the password when I had asked him sometime ago on macline. Anywayz, this is getting to long of a letter. Too put it short, I asked him to give me a break since I am not going to be on long and that I was sorry, but it wasn't worth logging of then back on just to change an icon when I was going to be there for only 2 min.. He proceeded to kick me and somehow ban me. This really made me mad, because in the past, I have always respected someone's request to change my icon if I was using theirs. This one time, when I am going to be on for 2 mins, and Noah freaks and kicks me. Thats a bunch of crap. Its an icon...ya, I understand that some people may get possesive about them, but its not worth kicking and banning someone for it!!! There were several others using the same icon!! This is too long, so here it ends, but if someone is going to do that on a public hotline site, thats a bunch of crap! I can understand on his personal site, but comon!!!!! its an ICON! melbo ---------------------------------------------------------------------- End of The Hotline Users Digest --- Internet Message Header Follows --- Received: from [204.95.233.208] by bertrand.ccs.carleton.ca (SMI-8.6/SMI-4.0) id EAA02058; Fri, 14 Feb 1997 04:15:17 -0500 Message-Id: <199702140915.EAA02058.2058@bertrand.ccs.carleton.ca> From: The Hotline Users Mailing List To: The Hotline Users Mailing List Subject: The Hotline Users Digest #41 - 02/14/97 Date: Fri, 14 Feb 97 03:00:01 -0600 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain Precedence: Bulk X-ListServer: LetterRip 1.0.1 by Fog City Software, Inc.
