I know some will undoubtedly scream in fear of such a thing, but I get rather frustrated at times when I am trying to track someone down. I was thinking that it would be nice if a user could apply to be tracked in the same way that servers currently are. The difference would be that when you clicked on the user, it would attempt to log you into the server they are attached to, or let you just send a private message to them. Of course you would have the ability to block users from messaging you, it could get annoying. But this would help solve the problem of tracking down admins when you need them. What do you guys think? ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Phil Says: A user tracker is VERY awckward in a public user situation. Any idea how terrible it would be to have a tracker that lists how many people are currently browsing the web? However a User Tracker in a corperate situation may be affective... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: User Tracker From: Jeremy Williams (by way of Phil Hilton) Date: Fri, 23 May 1997 16:41:42 -0400 >Just an idea, but what would you guys think of having a user tracker? A user tracker could work just the same as the current tracker. if you want to be tracked, you put a user tracker in the options dialog (with a check box to disable). You have different user trackers, maybe aven be able to register with multiple ones. traffic would not be too bad, as you would only have to connect to the user tracker when you enter or leave a site. I still don't like the idea of direct PMs under any circumstances. It could work. -- Jeremy Williams jeremyw@usa.net ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: User Tracker From: craigy (by way of Phil Hilton) Date: Fri, 23 May 1997 17:23:08 -0400 >Just an idea, but what would you guys think of having a user tracker? It might get out of hand, but it might not if people setup seperate trackers for different "types" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: User Tracker From: MacCroz (by way of Phil Hilton) Date: Tue, 27 May 1997 09:52:08 -0400 How often could someone actualy use a user tracker? A server tracker can be used all the time, but a user tracker maybe only once a night, the way to solve this is to compromise the server tracker and the user tracker by adding a search feature. It would search the people on the servers on that tracker, and return the peopel you requested. There is no need to make a completely new tracker system. BTW, this would take HUGE amounts of bandwith on the tracker side, tracker.cyberdream.net times out a lot, for 28.8 users, because it is so lagged, adding user search would intensify the problem. ---------- > From: craigy (by way of Phil Hilton) > To: The Hotline Users Mailing List > Subject: Re: User Tracker > Date: Fri, 23 May 1997 17:23:08 -0400 > >>Just an idea, but what would you guys think of having a user tracker? Everytime the user moves, just send a message to the users designated tracker, updating his/her location. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- End of The Hotline Users Digest
