No. The only eggs in hotline are harmless gags. Scripting... With the Apple Data Detector software that coming out, scripting is essential to every Internet App. ADD uses contextual menus on text to provide quick commands with the text. This scripting ability would be only for connecting to x server with login:pass, possibly a message and chat command, download file (if the path is provided) and list x (where x is the variable) tracker. ~-=Dark_Eclipse=-~ Web http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Heights/7553/ IRC Dark_Eclipse DALnet D_Eclipse EFnet Hotline Dark_Eclipse ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Faceless Server App... This is a good idea, but how would you quit the server, or get back to it if you clicked into the Finder? (Although I've seen HTTP servers that work like this, I've never used them so I don't know..) > If that's not possible, could you provide a close window button for the > server toolbar? Also, I like the list being more streamlined as far as ammount/relevence of posts, but the delay in having to wait for the messages to come through, and the somtimes blank subjects, as well as the return addresses having the "By way of Phil Hilton" thing is rather annoying. Has anyone else noticed this? -Jason ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Hotline and Open Sesame Proxy From: bit@cyberstreet.com (Jason Yates) (by way of Phil Hilton) Date: Fri, 18 Apr 1997 14:34:53 -0400 > I'm working with a local network of Macs, all connected to a PC which, on > turns, has a ISDN connection to Internet. Hotline doesn't currently work with proxies, but from what I understand it is being implemented for an upcoming release. -Jason ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: MULTICONNECT SPECIFICATION From: Chad (by way of Phil Hilton) Date: Fri, 18 Apr 1997 15:59:51 -0400 On 04/16/97 21:52, Adam Hinkley (hinks@netspace.net.au) wrote: >>Also, I think giving out people's IPs for direct private chat is a security >>risk. Just visit thier web page or ftp site and they'll have a log of your IP#. They can easily get the corresponding IN-ADDRESS.ARPA domain name. If you're using a dial-up account, ask your ISP if they're blocking SYN floods or Ping 'O Death attacks. If you've got a direct connection, ask your sysadmin. --chad ==================================== the answers: 1-it's called a snowboard. 2-yes, it's fun. 3-no, it's actually quite easy. 4-yes, I can stop it, and even turn! 5-no, I don't ski anymore. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Faceless Server =?iso-8859-1?Q?App=8A?= From: Chad (by way of Phil Hilton) Date: Fri, 18 Apr 1997 16:04:40 -0400 On 04/16/97 23:37, togtog -Paul Ramsey (togtog@bewley.net) wrote: >>Could there be an option in the server to make it faceless? ie, it doesn't >>show up in the finder menu. > >I like to be able to hide the server too, this way I can leave the computer >for awhile without someone quitting it. If you don't want people to _see_ what you're server is doing, you can use a screen saver like Eclipse and just dim the screen (takes up minimal CPU overhead). If you don't want people to _change_ the server, add a program called Keys Off! to the system. This little extension will block _ALL_ keyboard keys from getting to the finder (ie. the three finger salute), so nobody will be able to reboot the Mac (aside from unpluging the CPU). Eclipse is shareware from Ambrosia Keys Off! is shareware and available from your local Info-Mac archive as well as shareware.com and download.com. --chad =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D the answers: 1-it's called a snowboard. 2-yes, it's fun. 3-no, it's actually quite easy. 4-yes, I can stop it, and even turn! 5-no, I don't ski anymore. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject: Re: Faceless Server App...
